Defense Secretary Robert Gates at a news conference, 11 Jan 2007
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that Iraq will have to demonstrate its ability to deliver more troops to Baghdad and limit the political influence of militia factions before most of the additional U.S. troops will be deployed to the country. The secretary spoke the day after President Bush announced his new Iraq strategy, including an increase of more than 20,hollister france,000 troops.
Secretary Gates said the U.S. troop increase in Iraq will happen over a period of months, louboutin pas cher, and there will be plenty of time to determine whether the Iraqi government and military are fulfilling their commitments.
"Our belief is they will fulfill these commitments," he said. " But if we see them falling short, we will make sure that they know that, and how strongly we feel about it."
Secretary Gates indicated that U.S. officials will be particularly concerned about Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's promise that the military campaign to bring stability to Baghdad will not be hindered by influential politicians allied with militant factions. The secretary said that has been a problem in the past.
"One of the most important commitments that the prime minister has made is that in this offensive the military will have the authority to go after all law breakers," he said. "There are no exceptions."
Secretary Gates would not say whether the military operation will pursue militia leaders like Moqtada al-Sadr,scarpe hogan, but he said "all lawbreakers" will be pursued, hollister, and all Baghdad neighborhoods will be included.
He was also asked how long the U.S. troop increase, or surge, will last. He said, "It is viewed as a temporary surge. But I think no one has a really clear idea of how long that might be."
Adding about 20,000 troops to Iraq will bring the number of U.S. forces to only slightly more than it has been from time to time, hogan, due to overlaps or special deployments during the Iraqi elections. But Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman says this increase is different because the additional troops will be combat brigades, and will increase the U.S. commander's combat capability by 33 percent, hollister uk, with most of the increase in Baghdad.
President Bush made clear Wednesday that U.S. forces in Iraq will also take on Iranian and Syrian support for insurgents and sectarian militias in Iraq.
But the top U.S. military officer, louboutin, General Peter Pace, said that will not involve any direct attacks on those countries. He said, ralph lauren, "We can take care of the security for our troops by doing the business we need to do inside of Iraq. And there are other methods to deal with government-to-government relationships with Iran." But, he added, hollister, "with regard to those who are physically present trying to do harm to our troops, air jordan, regardless of nationality we will go after them and defend ourselves."
The Pentagon spokesman would not link that approach to an attack on a building in Irbil, louboutin, in northern Iraq. Iran's news agency said the building was an Iranian consulate, abercrombie and fitch, but the spokesman said that is not true. Six people were arrested, but U.S. officials will not identify their nationality.
Secretary Gates also announced that during the next five years, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps will be increased by a total of 92,000 troops to ensure enough force is available for whatever challenges the nation faces. That increase is subject to congressional approval.

A group of journalists and columnists who write on and from the Middle East say covering that part of the world in a positive light is not easy. They say it is much easier to fall into a negative pattern of writing, consistent with much of the pessimism coming out of the region. But, they add, they are committed to bridging gaps in their reporting on the Middle East and for this, they were honored at Columbia University recently.
Arab journalist Salameh Nematt and Israeli columnist Akiva Eldar exchanged a series of letters on the Middle East called "Reaching Across the Divide." When the two began writing to each other as a project for an international nonprofit media group, they admitted to being skeptical. Eldar was apprehensive about what he called in one of his letters "another battleground between Israelis and Arabs" being created in the correspondence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Nematt voiced concern that "Arabs killing each other in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories" gave him even less hope that peace with the Israelis was possible.
But according to founder of Search for Common Ground John Marks the dialogue that came out of the two writers showed him journalists can still write hopefully and positively about an event or situation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Marks says today's media are more concerned with pointing out differences or stressing negative aspects of a story.
"Most talk-show hosts, most journalists are trained in something else," he said. "They're trained to ask questions about disagreements. We think they can be trained to ask questions about agreements, and we think that both sets of questions are equally valid journalistic questions to be asked."
Marks says journalists should be able to understand and write about differences but they should also be able to point out agreements and look for common ground in a story. Marks' group honored Nematt and Eldar recently at Columbia University in New York for their work in contributing to a better understanding between people in the Middle East and advancing the peace initiative,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Nematt says it's not easy to "market peace" in today's antagonistic climate in the media. But, he says,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], journalists should ask questions about peace, just as much as they ask questions about war and strife.
"Take the Israeli example - last year's war with Hezbollah in Lebanon," he said. "In the aftermath of the war, we saw this vigorous questioning by the media for the reasons for the setback and failures, what went wrong, and how did we get humiliated. But we don't see the same vigorous questioning when it comes to journalists' questions [to] the leaders as to why did we fail to make peace."
Akiva Eldar agrees peace is not easy to sell, especially when newspaper readership is down and readers are used to conflict. Nonetheless,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he says, he goes into work everyday as a columnist at a major Israeli newspaper hoping he can still convince Israelis that peace is possible. But,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he says, convincing people to share in the blame and see that there is another side to a story is a continuous challenge.
"It was much easier to convince the Israeli readers that Barak, for instance, gave Arafat everything in Camp David,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that Arafat started the Intifadah,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], than what I did a few years later, and there were two books that were written, to prove that this is not exactly the exact narrative and there are other narratives," he said.
Gershon Baskin says that narratives filled with conflicts and disagreements and cynicism are still the top-selling stories. The Israeli writer and founder of the Israel-Palestine Center for Research and Information was also honored by Search for Common Ground for his work in promoting peace. As someone who talks to the international media on a regular basis, Baskin says he is dismayed by the lack of interest in a lot of organizations to write about peace and peaceful solutions.
"It doesn't rev the interest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said. "We've developed such a cynical outlook on the possibility of peace,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the hopes for peace have vanished. After so many years of failed peacemaking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and so many years of being told that there is no party on the other side to make peace with, the journalists don't want to write about it."
U.S. journalist Trudy Rubin says that the cynicism that pervades the news is counterproductive. A foreign affairs columnist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a previous Middle East correspondent in Jerusalem and Beirut, Rubin says that in addition to the cynicism, there is also a sense of lost hope, which she worries will be difficult to regain.
"It's sort of a deadening hopelessness," she said. "It's looked at in the context of the whole region. The whole region looks negative. It's very hard to write something that really makes the case for why this is all wrong and it [peace] is still possible."
In one of his letters to his Israeli colleague,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Nematt expresses his hope that a recent appointment of an Arab to the Israeli cabinet will bring some light to the darkness, some indication that the two sides can work together. He writes, "We need a partner to light a candle on the other side, rather than just curse the darkness."

The complete archive of revolutionary video artist Paik Nam-june (1932~2006),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], central to any future research into his work, is being handed to the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Arts Daily,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a U.S.-based online newspaper specializing in arts (www.artdaily.org) reported on Sunday, "The Smithsonian American Art Museum has acquired the complete archive of the artist [Paik Nam-june]," and that the Smithsonian will become "the major center for Paik scholarship." The Paik Archive features some of his major works including "Guadalcanal Requiem" and "The More the Better,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," a massive installation made of 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],003 TV monitors. The archive also encompasses his notes on his early works,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], correspondence with influential 20th century American composer John Cage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and his writings on the philosophy of art.

The Paik Archive was managed by Paik's nephew, Ken Hakuta. Hakuta received proposals to manage the archive from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Guggenheim Museum,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Smithsonian, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. Hakuta, with the consent of Paik's wife, chose the Smithsonian.
John G. Hanhardt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], consulting senior curator for film and media arts at the Smithsonian,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], played a crucial role in helping the museum get the archive. Hanhardt was the organizing curator for Paik's exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1982,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Paik's retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2000. "The Paik Archive provides an extraordinary opportunity to give a fuller picture of this seminal artist, and is essential to creating the yet unwritten global history of the moving image in 20th-century art," said Hanhardt.
From now on, researchers wishing to access to the Paik Archive will only be able to do so through advanced reservation. With the control of the archive being handed over to the United States, and Germany claiming authority of media art initiated by Paik, Korea's position in the scholarship of Paik will shrink even further.

The Korean economy grows about 5 percent annually,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so why is income stagnant? Exports are brisk,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so why aren't new jobs being created? The Hyundai Economic Research Institute noted these apparent contradictions and others in a report titled "Five Paradoxes of the Korean Economy" released on Sunday.
The report's five paradoxes are: (1) brisk exports despite the slowing global economy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]; (2) zero national income growth despite the high economic growth rate of 5 percent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]; (3) sluggish job creation despite the high economic growth; (4) sluggish investment despite the government's plan to galvanize the economy; and (5) the Korean won's weakening against the U.S. dollar despite the dollar's weakening globally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
As causes of these paradoxes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the report cited: (1) brisk exports to semi- and less-developed countries; (2) worsening trade conditions caused by high oil prices; (3) sluggish domestic consumption; (4) diminished investor sentiment caused by aggravated economic environments at home and abroad; and (5) a worsening capital account with an outflow of foreign investors from the stock market.
Of particular note, the report said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is that the Korean economy grew 5.7 percent during the first quarter year-on-year, higher than its potential growth rate. This was due in large part to growing exports despite the sluggish domestic consumption.
The report,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however, lowered this year's growth estimate from 5.1 percent to 4.9 percent. It predicted that the economy will sink into recession in the mid- to long-term if the current structure of growth but stagnant income continues.
"At the moment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Korean economy is in an initial stage of slowdown. In the wake of the rapidly diminished consumption,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it is feared that domestic consumption will dwindle further,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the public will be further squeezed by sluggish employment and soaring prices," the report said.
To escape the paradoxes and move along the normal path again, the report suggested curbing price rises to prevent the erosion of purchasing power among low-income people; boosting the construction sector to create jobs; expanding public spending to prevent the economy from shrinking quickly; and ratifying the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement as early as possible to sustain growth in the export sector,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the only growth engine of the country.

The Unification Ministry has declined an application by members of the radical teachers union to visit North Korea for a meeting with teachers there. The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union said 69 teachers applied to the Unification Ministry for an entry permit to North Korea to take part in the meeting on Aug- 10-14,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the ministry verbally notified them they will have to wait until the issue involving the fatal shooting of a South Korean tourist in Mt.Kumgang is resolved.
Since the shooting last month,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the ministry has advised private groups who planned large-scale visits to North Korea to cancel or postpone their plans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], saying that even if the application is submitted,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it is difficult to get permission. We are not banning the visits but recommending that visits be arranged at a more appropriate time in the future,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a ministry official said.
In addition to the KTEWU,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], various groups including Solidarity for Practice of the South-North Joint Declaration,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Federation of Korean Trade Unions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Democratic Labor Party are also planning large-scale visits to North Korea this month. But the ministry is reluctant to give permission because of the shooting.
The KTEWU criticized the ministrys attitude,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], saying blocking exchange channels between North and South Koreas in the private sector shows the government lacks the aspiration or will for reunification.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], left,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and his Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia
Top Palestinian officials say Yasser Arafat must live up to promises he has made to reform security forces and rid his administration of corruption. Mr. Arafat agreed to the changes in a meeting with his prime minister to end a political crisis and violent protests against his government. Palestinian Cabinet ministers say the pledges made by Mr. Arafat to his prime minister,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ahmed Qureia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on Tuesday must be translated into deeds.
Among those saying this is Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath.
"When you make decisions they are not sufficient to bring about full credibility. What would make them credible is how they are implemented, which I hope will happen," he said.
Mr. Shaath was responding to a reported promise by Mr,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Arafat to give the prime minister responsibility for at least some of the Palestinian security services.
The move follows two weeks of violent protests in the Gaza Strip by Palestinians demanding changes in security personnel.
The protesters also called for an end to what they perceive as rampant corruption within the Palestinian Authority,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Palestinian Minister for Negotiations Saeb Erekat says Mr,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Arafat also committed himself to tackling this problem,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"President Arafat and the prime minister called upon the attorney general to expedite all the files transferred to his office dealing with corruption,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he said. And we need expeditious results immediately and President Arafat and the prime minister have both said no one will be immune."
For his part, Prime Minister Qureia withdrew his resignation at Mr. Arafat's request.
Mr. Qureia says he hopes this marks a new era of openness.
"All issues have been discussed in a very open way and in a very comprehensive way. I hope that this is a new step toward imposing the rule of law in all the country," Mr. Qureia said.
Secretary of State Colin Powell,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], currently on a tour of the Middle East, expressed doubts that Mr. Arafat would carry out his promises to reform the Palestinian Authority and grant Mr. Qureia more power. Mr. Powell says the U.S. administration is looking for deeds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not words, from the Palestinian president.
Egyptian officials, who have been pressing Mr. Arafat to surrender some of his powers and overhaul the security forces,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], reacted differently. They say they view both Mr. Qureia's decision to withdraw his resignation and Mr. Arafat's promises of reform as positive developments.

The government,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], taking aggressive steps in its fight against drug trafficking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is set to launch anti-drug enforcement units next month. The National Police Agency said Wednesday that around 960 local police officers from 119 police stations in major cities nationwide will be ready for action to help contain the country's growing drug problem and prevent a possible increase in drug smuggling during the 2002 World Cup games. As part of its crackdown,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the government will set up special classes for investigators and provide them with high-tech devices such as portable drug detectors.

Acknowledging is simply repeating back to the speaker what you just heard and asking clarifying questions. It's only hard because we subconsciously equate acknowledgment with agreement. They are different. Listening and acknowledging what you hear are not the same as agreeing with what you hear.
If advocating is all you do, you will have few listeners. They'll get tired or bored. If,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on the other hand, you are a skilled listener, people will flock to you. And they will listen back.
#3) Avoid Selling or Telling
The most useful strategy for being heard is to educate. Help your partner see what you're seeing. And since you have listened so well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], your advocacy will be different. You'll address areas of agreement as well as places where you differ. You will go back to Inquiry occasionally as you test solutions (What do you think? Could my theory work?). And you'll be more solution-oriented.
Opening the Door
You can't make someone hear you. The funny thing is, when you push for your way, you virtually guarantee failure. When you open the door for someone else, however, they almost always hold it open for you.
#5) Acknowledge and Clarify Like This
Advocacy and The Art of Persuasion: 3 Tips for Being Heard
The three primary ingredients of conversation are: Inquiry, Acknowledgment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Advocacy.
#3) Be Curious
When I asked a coaching client what it would take to pose a question in a tone that sounded like he really wanted to explore rather than judge, he said: "I'd actually have to BE curious. "We had a good laugh realizing the obvious. And... Yes. That's it. You actually have to BE curious. It's a powerful state of mind.
• Inquiry is about learning, curiosity, and doing your best to understand how something looks to someone else.
• Acknowledgement is letting that someone know you've heard them.
• Advocacy is inviting them to hear you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• Can you tell me your thinking on this issue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
• If you could have your way in this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what would that look like?
• What else can you tell me about the problem?
• What's the ideal solution as you see it?
• Can you give me three or four ideas that would work for you?
• How do you think we should proceed?
• What I hear you saying is (.....),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• That sounds important. Can you say more about why you think that?
• What specifically would you like me to do differently?
• Can you describe what I do or say that makes me appear aggressive (passive, not interested, angry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], etc.)?
• Which part of the project are you concerned about?
• From what you say about (.....), you are hoping for (.....).
• Thank you for this information.
• I appreciate your thinking on this.
• Is there anything else?
You can find more examples of Advocacy language in my "Step-By-Step Checklist" article for difficult conversations and in "Being Heard: 6 Strategies for Getting Your Point Across."
#1) State your view of the situation with something like:
• I feel differently (if you do).
• From my point of view,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], here's what I think would be useful....
• I agree with (.....). I also think it's important to consider (.....),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if we're going to have a lasting solution.
• When you said (.....), it made me think of (.....). I think it would be useful to explore this area more thoroughly because ....
That's right: Listening and acknowledgement ≠ agreement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Make eye contact. Listen for what is not being said. When thoughts stray (I wonder what's for dinner?), bring them back to the speaker.
#2) Posture
Stand or sit next to the speaker without tables or barriers between you. Aim for side by side. If a table is necessary, make it a round one. Or sit caddy-corner to the speaker.
Disclaimer. You're probably reading this because you want to be heard, and I'm going to talk about how to listen. Because that's how to be heard. Become a good listener.
#1) Presence
Be there. Be tranquil. There is no need to be anywhere else. As Brenda Ueland writes in her magical 1992 article from the San Jose Mercury News: Say to yourself: “Now. What is happening now? This friend is talking. I am quiet. There is endless time. I hear it, every word.”
What's important is that:
• You ask sincere questions that you don't know the answer to,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
• You help the speaker reflect on his/her thinking.
• You proceed as if you're attempting to solve a puzzle.
5 Skills for Becoming a Good Listener
#4) Ask Questions Like This
These are mine. I'd love to hear yours.
#2) Both/And
Help clarify your position without minimizing your partner's. Include your partner's words wherever possible. Example: I hear you strongly advocating for extra sick-leave in your contract, and I would love to be able to accommodate. I can't at this point because of monetary limits. However, can we revisit this topic in 12 months. Would that work for you?

The government is taking measures to help ease the financial burden on the nation's low-income earners by increasing housing loans. According to the Construction and Transportation Ministry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Tuesday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], starting this week the nation's largest Kookmin Bank will lend up to 70% of the security deposit to those leasing a small-scale house measuring less than 85 square meters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or when the deposit money amounts to less than W50 million,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some US$37,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 in the Seoul City area,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and W28 million,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or US$20,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 dollars for major provincial cities.
The loan carries an annual interest rate of 3%,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and is repayable within two to six years. Those seeking to obtain housing loans will be required to submit a formal request to the local ward office.

The Role of a Personal Fitness Trainer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The focus on health and fitness has given rise to the Fitness Industry. This industry has spawned sub-industries ranging from fitness centers and equipment to healthy food and food supplements to fitness gear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Research into fitness has given rise to different ways of achieving fitness. These could vary from the mundane cardio vascular exercises and weight training to plyometrics and isometric exercises. Special trainers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who are well versed in different forms of exercise are required to guide a person through the exercise to ensure that one does not get hurt.
Change of life style : Creature comforts are attractive but them come with the huge downside of a more sedentary lifestyle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The hidden disadvantage is that the resultant reduced levels of fitness cause ill health,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

People who have specific limitations like a weak back or joints are best advised to use the services of a recommended personal fitness trainer so as not to hurt themselves further.
Longer more healthy life: Advances in the field of science and medicine have increased the life expectancy of mankind and research is constantly being done into how to cope with this longer life span. No one wants to live a longer life if they are crippled with ill health or are incapacitated in their later years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Therefore the focus is now on increasing the healthy and productive life span of an individual,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].. Focus on fitness has led to the advent of the personal fitness trainer
Personal fitness trainers are trained professionals who specialize in different forms of exercise and fitness. These professionals give a greater degree of personalization to your daily workout and therefore make it more productive.
Fitness centers or gyms have mushroomed around us and in this era of specialization,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], personal fitness trainers have become commonplace.

Importance of Fitness
Fitness and health though often used together are not one and the same. Health refers to the condition of the human body and the functioning of the organs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while fitness is more concerned with the musculature and stamina of an individual. Though the two subjects are different they are also interlinked as fitness leads to health.
Fitness and health are buzzwords of today’s world. Increasingly sedentary lifestyles, poorer quality of air,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], water and food and higher stress levels have given rise to this pre-occupation.
People with a fitness goal also avail of the services of this specialist in order to help them achieve their goal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The role of personal fitness trainers for sportspersons is crucial in order to work on the specific musculature required for each individual sport. Personal trainers at Orange County are specially trained and have high levels of expertise to ensure that you get maximum mileage out of your daily fitness workout.

We still have a month and a half to go before the kickoff of the Summer Olympics in Athens,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Greece.
Though the athletes have yet to sweat it out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], competition is already heating up among the corporate sponsors as they see the sporting gala as a golden opportunity to promote both their brands and company image on a global scale.
Athens is undergoing a major face-lift,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Major sports stadiums and public facilities are undergoing last-minute changes to welcome throngs of visitors from the world over,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Some of the most visible changes can be seen the minute a visitor arrives in Athens,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
There is a steady stream of advertisement billboards and posters along the way as corporate sponsors eagerly try to promote their brand image through the international sports gala,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
A total of 11 companies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including Coca Cola,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Kodak and Samsung are some of the big names supporting the Athens Olympics.
Samsung is the sole Korean sponsor in wireless communications and it's planning to provide some 14,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 cellular phones to officials and players during the event.
Samsung's rival,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], LG Electronics is not an official sponsor but it is supporting the Chinese National ping-pong team.
In other areas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Hyundai Motor for one is sponsoring the automobile sector as companies see the Olympics as a great platform to promote both their company and product image on a global scale.
Though the games have yet to begin,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], marketers say the race is already on among the corporate players in an event that is watched by an estimated 40 billion viewers worldwide.

Sales in the country of imported cars have risen sharply in the first quarter this year. Industry figures showed that, in the first quarter, a total of 2,788 foreign cars have been sold,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], up 71.9 percent over 1,621 units in the same quarter last year.
Sales of Japan's Toyota cars in Korea showed the largest growth, with 509 Toyota models sold in the first quarter, a surprising 135 percent rise over 216 units sold last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when the Japanese automaker made its debut in the Korean market.
If the current growth rate in the sales of foreign cars continues throughout the year, the total sales could reach 11,000 units this year, an official of a business association of car importers said.
Market observers said that the remarkable growth in sales of foreign models is attributable to Korean customers' changing perceptions of foreign models. One executive of the Korean dealer of Audi and Volkswagen said that Koreans no longer drag their feet when deciding on whether to purchase a foreign car as they did in the past, when they feared that owning a foreign car, which had once been regarded as an emblem of the rich in the country, would trigger tax inquiries on them.
Also,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the government slashed the special consumption tax on car purchases in November last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which will be in effect for an eight-month period until June this year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the prices of foreign cars have been lowered by W700,000 to W9.5 million, depending on the models, as a result.
As the sales of imported cars have soared,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the number of foreign carmakers tapping the market here has followed suit. About 10 foreign car firms have been operating a sales office in Korea for the last two years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including General Motors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Volvo and Porsche.
Meanwhile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Korean carmakers reported that their sales in April have mushroomed. The five Korean carmakers, including Hyundai,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Kia, Daewoo, Ssangyong, and Renault Samsung,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said their domestic sales for April reached 152,040 units,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], up 19.4 percent over the same month last year.

Not only that, but within a concentrated period of time I have experienced a new surge of prospects reaching out to connect and work with me.
For the first several hours of my day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even though I felt uninspired and doubtful about my ability to “be” and achieve my vision, and even though my critical mind chattered away in the background I continued to repeat my vision in the form of a question to myself…
What happened was startling. I began showing up for clients,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], prospects and myself in powerful new ways and having insights that I wouldn’t normally have conceived.
But in truth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in order to achieve my income goal, the vision has to live inside of me moment by moment. I have to be willing to commit to creating it in spite of how I feel – and in spite of my inner commentary and self-doubts. Then miracles seem to occur in my business - easily and effortlessly right before my eyes.
The idea behind taking a bold stand is that it’s meant to literally be a stand that you take on,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It’s meant to be a vision that is so all encompassing and filled with possibility that you have to literally re-invent yourself and who you consider yourself to be to experience it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It’s not an actual place “to get to” - or an end result to achieve. Rather it’s meant to be a place “to come from” that informs all of your daily actions and decisions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
In one moment in particular the insight that came to me was, “If I were a business owner who was a stand for all entrepreneurs living and loving richly I would be extremely present and attentive during the conversation that I’m having right now with this particular client.”
And as I listened to my client an insight occurred to me on how she could increase her fees.
I became willing to continue living and staying committed to my vision moment by moment and take action - in spite of the fact that initially I felt skeptical and uninspired,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Recently I committed to taking a bold stand to be not only “an entrepreneur who lives and loves richly – but to also be someone who is a stand for EVERY entrepreneur living and loving richly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].”
Over the last few months I’ve experienced several exciting breakthroughs in my business,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Yet some of these breakthroughs were immediately followed by “breakdowns” where I found myself seriously doubting my ability to achieve a particular vision or goal that I had set for myself.
I have realized that I don’t always have to feel truly inspired, or even feel like committing to and “being” my vision – just as long as I’m willing to commit to creating my vision each moment throughout the day.
Not only that but I had a particular bold income goal that I was committed to achieving and it seemed like I was certain to fall short of achieving it. This added fuel to the fire for my insatiable, skeptical mind.
“As a business owner who is committed to living and loving richly and being a stand for every business owner to do this as well – what would she do right now?” I would pause to listen for the answer and then took action on the guidance that I received,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I have learned that accessing my creativity and achieving a particular goal can only happen in the present moment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. That’s really the only time for creative opportunity. There have been times in the past when I’ve set a particular goal. And even when I went so far as writing it down on paper. In fact I can recall many times in the beginning stages of my business when I set a certain goal to make a certain amount of money by the end of the year.
However, despite the incessant stories of doubt and fear I continued to ask myself, “As a business owner who is committed to living and loving richly and being a stand for ALL entrepreneurs living and loving richly – what would she do right now?”
And here’s what occurred:
Many of my clients now leave their sessions incredibly transformed with new and inspired actions.
I shared my inspiration with her and at the end of our session I could hear the deep gratitude in her voice. She immediately implemented the action and reported at our next session that she had already gone on to instantly increase her fees – a true victory!
“That’s not really possible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” my mind insisted. And before I was consciously aware I began buying into the skeptical conversations as they arose inside my head. These conversations were so subtle that I didn’t realize that I was believing them to be true. They seemed to be accurately describing “the truth” and reality as I knew it.

Among the heads of the nation's top 10 business groups,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Chung Myung-koo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], chair of Hyundai Motor Group saw the biggest gains in the value of his share holdings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to the Korea Stock Exchange Tuesday.
Chung held a total of W186.4 billion in shares at the market as of the end of last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the value had risen to W396.1 billion as of Saturday of last week.
The KSE explained that upsurge in Chung's holdings was largely due to brisk exports of Hyundai cars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which raised the share prices of listed subsidiaries of Hyundai Motor Group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai Hysco.
In a sixth month period Chung has seen his shares go up by W209.7 billion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a 112.5 percent increase.
Chung is followed by Samsung's Lee Kun-hee. The Samsung tycoon holds the largest shares in market capitalization with W616.5 billion. Lee's shares increased by a total of W116.1 billion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a 23.2 percent gain.
Chey Tai-won,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], chair of SK Group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], made an unrealized profit of W22.9 billion, which accounted for 34.7 percent, thanks to gains by SK Global and SKC,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which offset the share price decline of SK Telecom.

Firstly it will depend on an individual’s basal metabolic rate (BMR), which represents the number of calories burned at rest due to metabolic functions within the body. This is approximately equal to 25 calories per kilogram of body mass, per day.

When you take a moment to think about your self-esteem, what comes to mind? STOP READING NOW! Take that moment...what does come to mind?
This is an issue of self-esteem. You have to feel that you deserve to feel good in order to do what it takes. Sure, there are times when work or family need all your attention, however, once the crisis is over, return to taking care of yourself. If the crisis is too long,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you'll run out of energy and begin to deplete all your reserves. This won't help your work or family,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], will it? It is also likely to cause you to resent the work, the demands or the people. Then, you might beat yourself up for feeling that when, actually, resentment is simply a sign that you are not giving yourself what you are giving to others. Notice this and take better care of yourself.
When I asked her if she was continuing with that program,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she said no. Why not? Somehow her overwhelming desire to keep millions of balls in the air and run herself ragged seemed more attractive. Isn't that an interesting conundrum?

Recently I spoke with a woman who told me how well she felt after three weeks of paying attention to her health. She was thoughtful about her food choices, slept well and made time for her exercise of choice. She said that it made her feel good about herself. Of course it did!
Author's Bio:
Do you immediately tell yourself what you do well? Do you remember all the good that you do? Terrific! Many folks have a tendency to first notice the places they have failed or are not doing enough. They think about what they have not done rather than what they have accomplished. They see their personal cups half-empty,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], rather than half-full.
How about you? If your first thoughts are positive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you have self-confidence. Want some more? There's a secret! Keep your promises to yourself. Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when you say that you will spend an hour alone, do it! When you decide on a food program,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], follow it! When you determine the best exercise for you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], do it!
Be consistent with your self-care. This doesn't mean creating a rigid schedule. That only causes resistance. Be gentle, yet firm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with yourself. Exercise for thirty minutes three times a week. That's a great start...and it's do-able. Once you get that established,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you'll probably feel like adding to it, so, take a walk, play a game or go for a swim. Set yourself up to win and enjoy it! You deserve it.
