BOR 90 draws a crowd in San Diego Harbor

BMW Oracle Racing's trimaran moored in the San Diego harbor is fully crewed, 24 hours a day, with its rigid wing up. When the boat isn't sailing the boat flys two small sails that help orient the boat into the wind.
Many of the boats cruising in San Diego Bay sail by to take a look, including a replica of the schooner America, shown in the photo at right. The schooner was the first yacht to win the America Cup in 1851, and for which the America Cup is named. The schooner was built to demonstrate that the New World now had the technology to be superior to the Old World. She succeeded by responding to a challenge from the Royal Yacht Squadron and winning the cup for the newly formed
New York Yacht Club. BMW Oracle Racing hopes that the new technology demonstrated in the BOR 90 trimaran will bring the America;s Cup back to the US when it races for the Golden Gate Yacht Club against the Cup defender, the Swiss team Alinghi 5, presently scheduled for February 8, 2010 in Valencia.
November 15, 2009 update: It will take a minor miracle in the form of some very favorable wind shifts and major upsets among the leaders to keep the USA team BMW Oracle Racing in the hunt for the Louis Vuitton Nice trophy following the team two losses in close matches Sunday with Britain TeamOrigin and Team Emirates New Zealand.
The USA team,[url=http://www.sport.fr/economie/airmax.html]chaussures nike pas cher[/url], sailed by NMW Oracle Racing, lost to the Russian Synergy team on Saturday, November 14. The loss and tiebreaker dropped the USA team to 6th place as Round Robin 1 came to a close.
The USA team is in the bottom half of the rankings heading into the modified second round. BMW ORACLE Racing now will compete against each of the top four teams. Only the top four teams in the second round will qualify for the Semi Final at the end of the second round.
"We're not out of it yet guys," pitman Jamie Gale told the crew in the debriefing after the race. "If we win three of the four, we'll be in the semis."
And there's already been an upset in round two. Winless in the first round, Team PagesJaune beat the second ranked Azzurra squad Saturday to send Azzurra into second place behind Round Robin 1 winner Emirates Team New Zealand.
